Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa yang semestinya dikuasai oleh setiap siswa, mulai dari Sekolah Dasar (SD) hingga tingkat Perguruan Tinggi. hal itu karena dalam masa sekarang ini bahasa inggris merupakan salah satu unsur yang menetukan selling poin dan daya kompetitif seseorang baik itu dalam dunia akademik maupun untuk menghadapi dunia kerja
Dalam dunia akademik seseorang yang hendak melanjutkan sekolah dari tingkat S-1 ke S-2, memerlukan skor TOEFL, sementara bagi mereka yang akan melamar kerja, perusahaan perusahaan besar mempersyaratkan nilai TOEFL tertentu bagi pelamar yang akan mengikuti seleksi. Demikian pun bagi mereka yang sudah bekerja tapi ingin naik pangkat/golongan, maka ada peryaratan nilai TOEFL tertentu yang menjadi acuan seseorang layak untuk mengikuti seleksi kenaikan pangkat atau golongan tersebut.
Untuk menguasai bahasa inggris diperlukan semangat, passion, gairah, dan motivasi tinggi. hal ini karena mempelajari bahasa inggris membutuhkan pengorbanan waktu dan tenaga, bukan hanya satu bulan dua bulan, atau satu tahun dua tahun saja. untuk menguasai bahasa inggris dengan baik dibutuhkan konsistensi dalam menerapkan latihan dengan disiplin dan intensitas waktu yang teratur dan tanpa henti.
Selain itu, dukungan dana pun merupakan pengorbanan yang wajib dilakukan. menurut pengalaman penulis, mempelajari bahasa inggris membutuhkan waktu lebih dari sepuluh tahun, itupun bila tidak rutin maka untuk memelihara kemampuan terutama dalam percakapan/conversation akan menjadi hal yang sulit.
Bergabung dengan klub bahasa inggris menjadi salah satu solusi bagi mereka yang memiliki keterbatasan dana untuk mengikuti kursus di lembaga atau privat. Dengan bergabung di klub bahasa inggris peserta akan memperoleh ilmu yang berharga yang meliputi hampir keseluruhan bidang kompetensi bahasa inggris. berdasarkan pengalam penulis selama lebih dari 9 tahun bergabung di berbagai klub bahasa inggris di Bandung, peserta klub bahasa inggris mendapatkan materi yang cukup lengkap, mulai dari grammar sederhana, materi Kosa kata (vocabulary), Idiom, slang, bahkan materi pendukung untuk TOEFL.
Beberapa klub bahasa inggris yang ada dan pernah ada dibandung diantaranya adalah United Conversation Club (UCC) LBPP Lia Bandung, COZY CORNER bandung, Lembaga Administrasi Negara (LAN) English Club, E-Club The British Institut, RRI Bandung English Club, The Center, dan masih banyak lagi.
Selain bergabung dengan english club, bagi mereka yang memiliki dana lebuh tentunya dapat memanfaatkan dengan mengikuti kursus bahasa, apabila seseorang mengikuti keduanya, maka dapat dipastikan orang tersebut akan mengalami kemajuan yang pesat dalam bidang bahasa inggris melebihi mahasiswa jurusan bahasa inggris sekalipun.
Beberapa perguruan tinggi di Bandung memiliki tempat kursus bahasa inggris sendiri diantaranya UPI, ITB dan Unpad. tempat kursus tersebut selain digunakan untuk membina mahasiswa dari kalangan internal, juga menerima mahasiswa dari luar (komersil), dan juga tersedia club bahasa untuk mempertajam kemampuan yang telah diperoleh dalam perkuliahan.
